The Journey Back To Me

The Journey Back To Me

I pity those who have never experienced the reality of epic failure in life.
That season of temporary utter devastation...that breath-taking moment of loss...that mind-altering state of rejection...

That moment when brain and heart agree for once...the mistake is lived out in breathing color... The guilt you bear for not feeling guilty...The shame you wear to cover the nakedness of honest moments of desperation...

All lead to the life-changing revelation that: I am human.
An authentic package of frailty and strength...weakness and confidence...flaws and purity...
All wrapped in one fragile, yet unbreakable package of humanity.

I am perfectly imperfect.
And today....for once....I find no shame in that.

This day is the first step of a journey of a million miles....
It is THE JOURNEY BACK TO ME.

GRADUATION

It happened. It really happened. I'm not shocked he made it, cuz he got his daddy's smarts and school was always a breeze for him. But my amazement came in how fast the time went right by me. It seems like last Saturday I was chewing my fingers, screaming at umpires, and eating tums for the ulcer at his Little League baseball games. How could he be 8 last Saturday and 18 today?

For the record, I am so very proud of my son. I am proud of the mountaintops and successful achievements...yes. But I am also very proud of the valleys and the failures he had the strength to get up, walk away from, and begin again. Wow! What a great accomplishment!

He makes me laugh. I love his jokes. I love when my phone lights up with his picture to let me know he's calling. I don't care why, I just love the sound of his voice.

This is my son...in whom I am well pleased. :-)

GOD IS STILL GOOD

On a quiet night when I can think more clearly, I plan to type so many of the stories and testimonies that have transpired over the last year. But I was looking at the blog today and it just seemed like cobwebs were forming. So I tried to think of a way that I could sum up all of the heartache, pain, loss, transition, physical illness, obstacles, roadblocks, attacks of enemy, stress, change, and all the other stuff life throws at us...and so I wrote: GOD IS STILL GOOD.

That says it all. Things change. People leave. Stuff breaks. Life hurts. BUT GOD...He stays, and He stays the same.

After all I have survived this past year, I can still testify: GOD IS STILL GOOD.

Journal - Thoughts

I'm reading the book: "The Power of Your Words".  Here is something very powerful and simple I am being motivated to do.  Everyday...and throughout the day, I am going to confess and affirm these facts:

God is who He says He is.
I am who God says I am.
God can do what He says He can do.
I can do what God says I can do.
God has what He says He has.
I have what God says I have.

This sounds simple when you are reading the words.  But when you start affirming and confessing them aloud...something very powerful begins to rise up in your spirt.  Wow!  Try it.
I saw this beautiful arrangement in the foyer of the Pebble Beach resort.  I just thought it was beautiful because I have always loved sunflowers.

New Song: "My Prayer"

Guard my heart
From the arrows of this world
Guard my mind
From thoughts that aren't Thine own
Instill in me
A longing just to please You, Lord
These things I ask
These things I pray
In the solitude
Of this quiet time with You

I just wanted to share one of our sunsets here at Promise Ranch.  It's quite a sight, and I invite you all to come and enjoy it sometime.  My daughter knows how much I love the sunsets, so if I am not at my "sunset viewing post", she yells out to me, "Mom, hurry!  Come look at the picture God painted for us today!"

The Swing - A Chapter from "Daily Inspirations from the Simple Things"

THE SWING

One beautiful California afternoon Aaron and I took the kids to the little park that is two blocks from our home there. It's a beautiful place that is designed for the residents here in our neighborhood. The kids love to go there because there's lot's of beautiful green grass, basketball, volleyball, soccer, climbers, slides…and yes, a swing.

I don't believe I had been on a swing since I was just a teenager. I remember we used to go to the beach and swing as high as we possibly could and then we would jump off the swing at the highest point, and just spread our wings and fly, for what seemed like a small journey. Our trust was in the soft place that we had found to fall…the sand…so forgiving of our ignorance and our disregard for danger.

So the kids were running around, climbing, sliding, and just being kids. I sat on the swing, primarily because I was looking for somewhere to sit. But then I began to swing.

The words that I will write will surely fall short of the glorious feeling that overcame me as I began to rock back and forth, carefully at first, but then the freedom from cares and worries began to take over. I found myself swinging as high as I possibly could take myself. It was so exhilarating and liberating all at once.

I became a little girl. The act of swinging and the memory of being carefree became synonymous. I was free from anything anyone thought about me. I was free from bills and financial obligations. I was free from work and stress and all the burdens life has a way of throwing on top of us. For this moment, it was me on top of the world, instead of the world on top of me. I could breathe a little better and the air seemed more crystal clear. And so did my thoughts.

The late afternoon gave way to an early sunset and night began to fall. The stars started their appearing upon the black stage of night. And it was at that moment that I really thought I could see Him looking down at me. I could feel His presence from afar, but He felt so very near. Surrounded by this warm liberation, and assured that I had His attention for this instance, my only thought was, "Lord, are You smiling?"

Sometimes we get so caught up in the cares of the world, the caring for the world, and we find ourselves at the bottom of a very heavy pile of stuff. We need to take a moment to become a child again so that we can see Him through eyes of blind innocence, without the blur of "what-if's" and "should-haves". And He looks back at us through His eyes of eternal grace.
At that moment, nothing else matters but His smile.

Scripture:
Ps 31:16
Warm me, your servant, with a smile; save me because you love me.
(The Message Bible)

Prayer:
Jesus, my Friend, my prayer today is that in some small way, something I've done or said made You smile.

Free me from the cares of life, for even just a moment, so that I can clearly see Your face. Take away all the fears and worries that cause my vision to become blurred. Renew in me a child-like attitude towards You in prayer. Let it be the simple things that take meaning.

And Jesus, when You look down upon me, your servant, smile.

A New Song

I was in one of the most powerful prayer times I have ever experienced. There had been a lot on my human and spiritual mind in the previous months. I had questions about my future and about my tomorrows. I could literally hear these words being spoken into my heart. I wanted to share this today in case someone reading this is at a crossroad in your life. Here is what my best Friend told me:

Don't you worry 'bout a thing
I'm in control of everything
I promised in my holy Word
Your steps are ordered
Your steps are ordered
Your steps are ordered by Me

Don't you worry 'bout plans you make
Don't you worry 'bout steps you take
I promised in my holy Word
Your steps are ordered
Your steps are ordered
Your steps are ordered by Me

I heard you crying in the night
Should I go left
Or is it right
But I promised in my holy Word
Your steps are ordered
Your steps are ordered
Your steps are ordered by Me

So don't you worry 'bout a thing
I'm in control of everything
....ordered.....your steps are ordered by Me

A New Life

I wanted to mark the date and remember it forever.  The days of March 13-15, 2009, will mark the beginning of my new life.

After experiencing God through the ministry of Dr. Gerald Jeffers, I know that I can never be the same.  Through his teaching of the Word, I am now aware of basic principles and spiritual laws that apply directly to my purpose and destiny.  It has been revelation to me...although the scriptures have been there all along.  Funny how just all of a sudden...one day...we get it.  And life is never the same.

I will write more as my spirit begins to digest this healthy meal of fresh revelation.  Right now I am simply too overwhelmed with God's pure goodness to even begin to put it into mere words.

Anybody Tired?

I absolutely LOVE Christmas!! It is my favorite time of year.  But those of you who are around my age can probably identify with this.  I sorta woke up to the fact that I am becoming the President of the Christmas season.  You know kinda like the head PTA mom...except there were no elections.  I just realized that Christmas is now whatever I make it.

It used to be my grandmother.  Then the torch was passed to my mom.  And now suddenly, without warning...I am running through this season with this Christmas torch that I never campaigned for.

I did all the preparations.  I did all the cooking.  I did the shopping and wrapping.  Need I make a list?  You already know.

But guess what!!  I had the best time of my life!!  It hit me around 5:00 pm on Christmas Day that I was having the season of my life!!  It hit me that I was all grown up now and perspectives and priorities had changed without me even working on it.  It just happens.  Now, it is MY joy to watch everyone eat the food I have prepared.  Now, it is MY joy to watch as they open presents.  Now, it is MY joy and fulfillment to put my head on my pillow...finally...and smile with a warm fuzzy feeling down deep in my heart, knowing that I did something that REALLY matters.  I created a moment in time that will be logged in tomorrow's sweet memory book.

Anybody tired now?  I am.  I will sleep very well.

The Children's Christmas Play

That's my little sweetheart on the right with the bling head wrap.  She was mad that I was taking pictures at the Christmas play.  On the left is her "Bethlehem Sister", Mikayla Pete.

My Christmas Miracle

My daughter is so precious to me.  She is a bright ray of sunshine in my life.  She is six years old...and VERY feisty!!  She has a mind of her own, to put it mildly.  She also suffers from extreme shyness in front of crowds, therefore, she has never...and I do mean never...participated in any of her school plays or church plays...nothing.

But Lindsey came home the other night from KATS Kid Church and told me that she had a part in this year's Christmas play.  I thought to myself that I will go over her part with her daily and encourage her like all the other moms, all the while knowing in my heart that she is NEVER going to get on that stage and say her part in a microphone in front of hundreds of people.  But what I didn't know was that Lindsey was determined this time.  And I still don't know what was different about "this time". All I know is that she prayed every night that God would "help me be brave and strong and not afraid to say my part in Bro. Kevin's play".

So last night I sat on pins and needles waiting for the moment...that moment...her moment.  I had so much faith in my heart that this time was going to be different.  And here she came with her "Bethlehem sister" and 2 year old little boy camel in tow.   She huffed and puffed as she tugged and pulled at Ethan (the camel)to come on stage.  And before I knew what happened, she had a microphone in her hand and had said her line: "I sure hope we can find some water for my thirsty camel."  WOW!!! Did that just happen? It must have because there are tears pouring down my face and I can hardly operate my camera.

It was my Christmas miracle.  My little girl's prayers were answered.  God had helped her overcome her seemingly insurmountable fears.  And I thought to myself, might it really be that simple?  Is there a slim chance that God really does hear us when we pray?  And an even larger thought...does He really care about the things that really matter to us?

My answer is, yes.  He listens.  He cares.  He answers.

The Morning After

This weekend was another remarkable weekend.  Last night was our annual Winter Wonderland Christmas concert.  The choir was so incredible!  Our guest soloist, Gene Moore, from Houston, Texas was simply phenomenal.  My dad (Pastor Murrell Ewing) was awesome, as always.  The kid's performance of Christmas Around The World was so adorable.  My friend, Loida Howell, came in to perform her fabulous Creative Worship and rocked the house as usual.  Our Eastwood Quartet (oh how I love quartet music) did a great job.

Just wanted to mention that some very special people were in attendance last night.  One of my very best friends for life, Julie Finical (and her husband Tony), was there.  My one and only first cousin, Dana Clark Heinen (and her husband Mark and their son Will), was there.  Our city mayor, Mr. Randy Roach, honored us with his presence.  And then, all the way from Baton Rouge, the "President of the Vonnie Lopez Fan Club", Tina Timoll and about eight of my sweet friends came to the concert.  (Note for sensitive readers: The whole "fan club" thing is just an inside joke :-)

And then at last I must give credit to my dear friend, Shelly Buller, for pulling stuff together like only she can.  If anyone reading this is getting married...you will want Shelly to help you! She is so awesome!!
